We learn so much about Sloan's painful past, the sacrifices he made and the dedication he has.After reading Rack & Ruin I understood Sloan better. His fear of commitment, his hesitation in getting any deeper with Dex.As much as it hurt Dex, Sloan's past shaped him. Sloan had known lost and heartache and nothing in his life has been constant, except for Ash.In Rack & Ruin we also see a different side to Ash. We knew it was there but in this book in exploded out of him.Dex and Ash arent the great of friends, Ash still denies his attraction to Cael. Whats more, Ash hurts Cael with his words. We know they are Ash's way of hiding, but it still hurts to read anout Cael's pain.Dex is kickass as ever.Even with all his issues, he still finds the time to protect his brother, meddle in his teammates relationship, eat crappy food and listen to his favorite music.Rack & Ruin was an intense book, but I think it also had the most humor!!I loved seeing the relationship develop between Dex and Sloan.Dex keeps exposing his feelings, even when its hard, even when Sloan does the predictable and runs, and as Ash explained to Dex, Sloan always runs.The ending of the book was emotional on many fronts: we saw Sloan and Dex are together and united more than ever. The love they have for each other and commitment is stronger than ever, and more surprisingly, Ash and Dex actually get along!The book ends in an explosive cliffhanger and I cannot wait to start the next book in the series.
I loved this so much! Great continuation of the series. I have to be honest and say that Ash kinda stole the spotlight in this for me...what a lovable ***hole. Seriously, the guy just about had me in tears!The team gets into some pretty heavy stuff as they deal with the Order and the Coalition and are ultimately caught in the middle. Add to that mess the fact that the team itself is starting to fall apart as the characters try to deal with stuff in their personal lives."MTV would make a mint with a reality TV show about their unit. The relationship drama alone would carry the ratings, forget the actual fieldwork."Dex and Sloane are starting to move along in their relationship but Sloane is still holding back. It was nice to see Sloane finally take the step to be with Dex and put Gabe behind him.*sigh* Ash, Ash, Ash...what can I say? I've always liked Ash but I liked him as part of the group. He was that ***hole guy who Dex screwed around with and who was always starting s**t with everyone. But he was dedicated and loyal and Sloane's best friend so clearly he had some good qualities. In this book though we get a deeper look into Ash as he confronts and comforts not only Sloane but Dex as well. I was pretty taken aback by his willingness to talk Dex into not giving up on Sloane, and at the same time warning Sloane not to let something good like Dex get away from him. I'm really looking forward to reading Ash and Cael's book, if only to see Ash get some more page time.Thank god I have book 4 available otherwise that cliffhanger would have seriously sucked!! The ending was what really cemented my newfound love for Ash. I'd love to see more of Dex and Ash really getting to know one another/bonding, and I'm looking forward to seeing how Ash and Cael resolve their issues.Overall I really loved this and can't wait to start the next book! I'm kind of hoping to see a bit of "Darkside" Dex in the next one...I'd love to see him just lose his cool and dish out some pain to the bad guys targeting his friends and family.(Originally reviewed 4/6/16)
This third book in the THIRDS series by Charlie Cochet is heavy on the emotion. I was near tears several times and in tears more than once. We get a lot more back story both on Dex and Sloane as well as other members of the team. All of this as well as a continuation of the overarching storyline related to the hate groups of humans and Therians. We get the rise of a Therian vigilante group that was introduced on book 2, moles in the THIRDS teams and more relationship drama. And that drama is contained to Dex and Sloane. We see it with other members of the team as well.The character development is heavy in this book and we get more history and background of this world Cochet has created. She does a great job establishing and enhancing her world and the reader is sucked right in. I was so invested in the storyline here, holding my breath in climatic scenes and rooting for the good guys. This series is excellent and I highly recommend it. It has to be read in order. I am now off to purchase book four and get started on it immediately!
