This book is filled with valuable information to plan for nursing home and financial planning, specifically in Florida. My one complaint is that I think a chapter could be added titled "Which Financial Plans Work and Don't Work for Medicaid". No mention of irrevocable trusts is made. If they are a bad idea I'd like to know why, even if it's bad news. Divorce? Some people do that (I hear) but no mention is made pro/con.This book has helped us prepare before talking to an elder law attorney. Good book.
Excellent resource for helping your family protect many of their assets (legally) when someone must go on Medicaid to survive the cost of long term care. I have had some personal experience with helping a love one qualify for Medicaid, and the consultant I used charged several thousand dollars for basically the same information. I do believe you will need an attorney to help with the related legal documents but the book shows you what the options are.
This book covers the subject of Medicaid in the State of Florida like nothing I've ever seen. MY attorney said she was "going to write this book". However, she was so pleased when I took it in for her to review. She said she would order at least 3 to use in her office. My deepest gratitude to John Frazier for making this book available, especially for the elderly.....
I guess that this publication ( I would not call it a book) is OK. I did not learn anything new that was of great interest. I had the impression that the author was stretching out his comments in order to fill pages. I should mention that there were not many pages either. It was definitely overpriced for what we received.
John Frazier's book "Protecting Your Family's Assets" should be a must for everyone who lives in Florida or any other state. This book gives you the steps to help protect assets. I know first hand how assets are lost when someone gets ill or dies. For example, my father died with an estate worth $285,000 on paper, and after four years of Probate, I received $211.77.I believe everyone should read this book to prepare for the misfortunes that happen every day. Why wait to get your affairs in order, buy this book now. It will save you a lot of headaches in the future.Great job John.Michael Monji, author of "Does It Pay To Die?"
The clear message from this book rings clear that elder care and asset protection is no do it yourself project. An earlier reviewer said he learned nothing new from this book. He wasn't reading carefully or is too far from the subject - for now. I learned a plethora of terminology I can take to an attorney. It means I can walk through the door with at least some knowledge of what is faced in making critical decisions in qualifying an elder relative for Medicaid coverage - while still preserving assets. It's a minefield that no layperson dare navigate alone. Mistakes can be disastrous with all remaining assets being kept by the state. Buy the book and select the situation that most closely matches yours. Then meet with a qualified elder affairs attorney, preferably one with life care planning skills. This is one area where you need to pay attention.
The amount of terminology needed to even begin to talk about this subject is enormous. This book gave me the phrases I need to talk to a lawyer. These decisions are important and often made at a time when emotions cloud judgment. So I'm glad to get it ahead of need. It isn't even so much protection of assets as it is getting the best care for a loved one for the money that available. Mistakes can be costly. For me, the book was clear and simplified as much as possible a complex issue. It's not a how to do it book but it will help you understand what your attorney is talking about. Yes, the book was short but it was also clear and understandable. I am happy to have it.
